The nation is still reeling from Wednesday’s mass shooting, which saw a Trump-hating gunman opened fire on GOP congressmen as they practiced for a charity baseball game. The shooter, who was a Bernie Sanders supporter, managed to critically injure Representative Steve Scalise and four others before he was shot dead by Capitol Hill police.
Now, doctors have given an update on Scalise’s condition, and he’s going to need more prayers.
Doctors at MedStar Washington Hospital, where Rep. Steve Scalise (R- Louisiana) remains in critical condition, said he’ll need more surgery.
On Wednesday, he underwent procedures performed by two teams of doctors.
Dr. Jack Sava, the director of trauma for the hospital, said Scalise was initially awake at scene but went into shock when he was transported from the baseball field Wednesday in a shooting that left four others injured.
It took a number of units of transfused blood to keep Scalise alive, as the transpelvic gunshot wound he sustained penetrated bones, internal organs and blood vessels.
He said of the wound, “there are hundreds of fragments and usually there’s more risk involved” to remove all of them from the congressman.
Sava said doctors were eventually able to reduce sedation in order to have the congressman see and speak to family members.
“I think that an excellent recovery is a good possibility,” said Dr. Sava.
Please keep praying for Representative Steve Scalise!
