Earlier this week, Senator Elizabeth Warren was rebuked and silence during Jeff Sessions’ attorney general confirmation hearing for trying to read a letter about him written by Coretta Scott King, the widow of Martin Luther King Jr. One day later, this race-baiting nonsense came back to bite her in a big way.
Conservative Tribune reported that King’s niece Alveda King spoke out on Wednesday to slam Warren, saying that her attempts to read the letter were just her playing the race card. She explained that though Coretta did indeed write a letter against Sessions in 1986, her views on him changed dramatically over the years.
“(S)he would agree today that he of course ended some school segregation, he worked to prosecute members of the KKK,” Alveda told Fox Business Network. “Aunt Coretta was a very reasonable women and she, with integrity, would have noted that he had done some great work in fighting against discrimination.”
“I believe certainly that if she could look at the record of Senator Sessions today, with integrity, she would say, ‘Well, he has worked to prosecute the Ku Klux Klan, he has worked to desegregate public schools,’ so it’s almost like a bait and switch, stir up their emotions, use the name King, and my name is Alveda King, play the race card,” she added.
Alveda went on to explain that unlike Warren, she and her family are not dividers.
“We are taking a look at many things that Mrs. Coretta Scott King said, Martin Luther King Jr., my daddy A.D. King,” she said. “But our family — we are peacemakers, we bring people together … we do not divide people.”
