The Obamas are preparing to move out of the White House on January 20 as they relocate to a mansion in the ritzy Washington D.C. neighborhood of Kalorama.
The Obamas claim that they chose the neighborhood because it was close to their daughter Sasha’s school. However, what was just spotted near their new home indicates that they chose this location for a very different reason…
The mammoth, multi-million-dollar mansion where President Barack Obama and his family will reportedly live after the first family exits the White House is located 1,096 feet from the Islamic Center of Washington — one of the largest mosques in the Western Hemisphere.
Both Obama’s new digs and the Islamic Center are located in the fancypants northwest Washington, D.C. neighborhood of Kalorama.
The Islamic Center is a tremendous resource for the District’s Muslim community. “It provides Qur’an and Islamic Literature and distribution of such publications that would create awareness and knowledge of Islamic Truth,” according to the center’s website.
The Islamic Center in our nation’s capital also provides help for families in need, holds wedding ceremonies, organizes language courses, offers counseling and makes available ample research material related to Islam.
The Islamic Center features prayer five times daily. Jumaa Prayer, a traditional, congregational prayer held each Friday, occurs at 1:30 p.m.
The exterior of the Islamic Center features horseshoe arches, Arabic script and a tall, ornate minaret. The building is surrounded by an array of flags representing the countries of the world where Islam is the state-sanctioned religion.
Just around the corner and up the street — a four-minute walk away — Obama’s palatial, 8,200-square-foot mansion boasts eight-bedroom and nine-and-a-half-bathroom. It includes a two-car garage and courtyard with space for roughly 10 vehicles.
The home — built in 1928 — sold for $5,295,000 in 2014.
